The Medicine and Horsemanship program was established at the Stanford Medical School to address this
problem. This learning program is unique in that it gets you outside and in an
experiential learning situation while you absorb the required material as well
as through reading and writing.
The objectives of this Equine Assisted Learning Program (EAL) is to:
- Become aware of the subtleties of verbal and non-verbal communication
- Improve attention, mindfulness, and focusing abilities
- Become aware of in-congruency of intention vs. behavior
- Identify and respect boundaries in ourselves and others
- Recognize the nature of projection and transference
- Confront insecurities and develop confidence
- Adjust to the relativity of time and expand the moment
- Cope with stress
This program has other components of study required as well as the experiential horse arena
sessions including: reading assignments, a text called Mindfulness and
Meaningful Work; Explorations in Right Livelihood by Claude Whitmyer and
journaling assignments.
This program is currently formatted as a weekend arena program with the rest
of the work being completed within two weeks of the course for credit. CME's & CEU’s are being explored for this program at
